Emirates prefer A380s over long-haul twin jets like 787-9 and A350-900LR

Emirates Airline president Tim Clark prefers to have A380s over twinjets like the A350 and Boeing 787 on Emirates fleet. “You get ultra-long visions with small aeroplanes like the 787-9 and the A350-900LR, whatever… you are still in a twin,” he said on 11 April media briefing at Hamburg airport, Germany.

According Clark, A380s are the best unique selling point for Emirates. He said that double-deck cabin on A380 allows carriers to provide a generous product because of the space, specially in economy class.

In terms of operationing cost, Clark says “It always baffles me that we can make them work profitably… others can’t seem to.”

Emirates currently operate 102 A380s and early this year, it placed an order for 20 A380s which are scheduled to be delivered from 2020.

Emirates built its A380 fleet with Alliance GP7200 engines, and switched to Rolls-Royce’s Trent 900 for aircraft delivered since 2015.

With engine option for A380, Emirates has a choice between Alliance GP7200, and Rolls-Royce’s Trent 900 engines for its new orders., and Clark says,”..There is nothing wrong with Rolls-Royce. But having Alliance coming back in again could make life interesting”
