Dubai International Airport to Suspend Operations for Runway Repairs

Dubai International airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, is planning to suspend operations on its Northern runway due to ongoing upgrades on the other runway. According to an airport spokesperson, the runway closure is occurring as part of the the airport’s southern runway rehabilitation and maintenance program, and in close coordination with airlines operating to flights to and from Dubai for minimum passenger inconvenience. The repairs will take place during the least busy hours of the airport. The northern runway closure hours schedule, as described by the airport, is 5:00 PM through 7:00 PM on May 24th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on May 26th, and on May 27th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. As the southern runway is currently closed, the closure of the northern runway will temporarily stop the airport’s operations The northern runway at Dubai will close the entire airport. The closure of both runways at one of the busiest airports in the world will cause significant disruptions, as some flights will need to divert to Dubai-World Central airport (DWC) or be delayed or cancelled. However, the upgrades will make the airport more modern, and operations at DXB will be smoother after the upgrades on both runways are completed.
