American Airlines and Southwest cancel flights scheduled on MAX until 6 March 2019..

November 10, 2019

American Airlines has extended the grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX fleet until 5 March 2020, while the Southwest Airline extended until 6 March 2019.

The American airline said in a statement “American remains in continuous contact with the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Transportation and Boeing. Based on the latest guidance, American anticipates that the resumption of scheduled commercial service on American’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will occur March 5, 2020. Once the aircraft is certified, American expects to run exhibition flights, or flights for American team members and invited guests only, prior to March 5.”

The Dallas-based American Airline had previously grounded the plane through Jan 16, and Southwest through Jan. 16.

Southwest Airlines’ fleet is entirely made up of Boeing 737s, and it had 34 MAX grounded while 200 more on order at the time of the grounding in March.

Both airlines have cancelled thousands of flights since March this year.

Earlier this week, regulators found gaps and substandard documents of proposed 737 Max software fix, in the recertification paperwork submitted by Boeing, and asked for revisions.

This could delay the MAX off the ground as FAA said it would take 30 days after the certification flight before it would certify the MAX to be airworthy.
